OKUMA's VTM-YB series are machines with a 5-axis combination between turning and milling centres, capable of turning, vertical, horizontal and angular machining in one machine without the need to reposition the workpiece. With operator control, spindle direction is set according to the workpiece, and side cutting with straight milling cutters can be used to dramatically reduce cutting time compared to cutting with circular milling cutters. Cutting efficiency thus has the potential to increase dramatically, as does tool life, resulting in a reduction in overall costs. The spindle is based on two bearing points with large-sized bearings, which enable precise control in the production of complex parts. When required, the spindle gearing is able to maintain high speeds when machining large parts such as valves.
